Essential Oil of Oregano

Oregano, also known as delight of the mountain, is an herb native to Europe used in traditional medicine to treat a variety of illnesses and ailments. The herb was also used in culinary practices as a spice, especially in Italy. The essential oil of oregano has many beneficial properties, and is proven to be an antibacterial, antimicrobial and antiviral. The oil is recommended by herbalists and holistic doctors because of its powerful benefits and no side effects.
Benefits:

Oregano essential oil is a powerful antioxidant and is effective at neutralizing free radicals that can cause significant damage to the body. Due to these effects, oregano can help prevent cancer, muscular degeneration, hearing loss, blindness, nervous disorders and wrinkles.
The oil also has a sedative property that soothes inflamed tissue, external or internal. It is also extraordinary for treating infected nails or nail fungi. Since oregano is also an anti-allergenic, it soothes the bodies reactions towards allergies, such as bee stings or pollen, providing additional relief.
Besides these uses, oregano essential oil has been used for hundreds of years to treat stomach aches, psoriasis, jaundice, diarrhea and fungal diseases. Even eczema, the flu and athlete's foot can be treated by oregano essential oil. Additional problems that can be treated include E. coli, food poisoning, cold sores, beaver fever, herpes and blisters.
Use:
Knowing how to use oregano essential oil to treat your ailments is one of the most important things to know about the herb. The simplest and easiest way to take the herb is to simply ingest some of the wild plant. Oregano is a commonly used seasoning that can be added to a wide variety of dishes to add some of its beneficial effects. This dosage, however, is extremely weak and will not treat any serious ailments.
Essential oil of oregano can generally be applied directly to the afflicted location to provide instant relief. Only a few drops at most should be used during any application though, and if any burning occurs, rinse the oil away immediately to avoid an allergic reaction. Several drops can also be added to mouth wash or toothpaste, or added to water and consumed on a daily basis. Another common practice is to add several drops of the oil a hot bath prior to getting in. The soothing oil will relax your mind and muscles.
Prior to using oregano essential oil, make sure you are perfectly healthy and able to do so. Do not take oregano essential oil if you are pregnant or may become pregnant or if you are under the age of 13. Always consult a doctor or herbalist prior to taking any herbs to avoid possible injury. Ensure the essential oil is diluted prior to applying or ingesting to further reduce the risk of pain or an overdose.
